Day 2

day 2 UK to France (Poole - Cherbourg-Carentan) 71.6 KM Waking at 6:30 am to leave in plenty of time for my 8am ferry I quickly unplugged everything that was left to charge overnight. After a quick double-check of the hotel room, I got the bike out of the shed and repacked everything ready for the voyage ahead. Again another quick double check, and I was off- only a quick 2km cycle to the ferry terminal. On arrival, I was surprised to find that I was the only cyclist boarding. Slightly sad as I love speaking to fellow cycling when In the queue for border patrol, but oh well. After removing all the electronics again from the bike, and trying to tie it to the wall I headed for my seat. Not to sound snobbish but I had a seat reserved In the club class lounge- a small extra expense however it's worth it considering the limitless supply of tea and coffee on offer. Not only that but also free biscuits! Stuck everything back on charge here, and helped myself to as much free coffee as my bladder could handle. On arrival in the port of Cherbourg just after passport control, I was busy raising my seat post, when I heard a whistle blow. I knew it was directed at me as not only was there none else about but because I was tucked away in the Shade just behind the border patrol office. A policeman approached and enquired about what I was doing, and after a short explanation, he allowed me to leave. Next stop, decathlon After tacking the horrible steep hill out of Cherbourg I made my into the decathlon store. For those who may not know what decathlon its a huge shop that sells equipment and clothing for virtually every sport. Prices are cheap considering the quality of most items. I was meant to get some extra clip-on lights, the kind that takes a coin cell however they had none in stock. However, I did notice an embroidery department and decided to get my 'touring shirt' embroidered with the departure and destination locations for the trip I'm doing currently. When told the price was €10 I wrote out what I wanted stitching and waited around for around 20 minutes. In the meantime, I was trying to figure out why I could not call UK numbers.
